To design a basement bar that would capture the visitor's imagination.
./The aim was to create a hidden gem within a busy city centre where visitors would be taken to another world, an escape from their usual surroundings that would provided a unique and exciting experience.
The team developed their ideas through research of Japanese garden design, such as, bridges, paths and building styles. These elements were explored and exaggerated to create a contemporary yet abstract layout with interior architecture that would frame the scenery beyond.
Through this process areas emerged that would provide space for the bar, private seating areas, and social areas for groups to meet and relax.
As the space is located within a basement level with no natural light it was important to deliver a lighting design that would complement the concept, highlight key features and provide task lighting for visitors and staff members.
Specialist light fittings were specified to emphasise the dramatic atmosphere required within the space.
Furniture was carefully chosen to add to the overall affect of the design. Within the hanging gardens of vibrant artificial planting, swing chairs were playfully positioned to appear part of a natural landscape. Loose seating and tables were nestled between architectural features to create secluded areas.
